Sooner or later, almost every single person that diets will hit a weight loss plateau. Usually it happens toward the end of reaching your ideal weight loss goal. What is the Best Exercise For Weight Loss?

It is a common misconception that aerobic exercise tones and firms muscles. Actually it accomplishes very little toning and firming. Resistance exercise (weight training) is where real toning and firming of muscles occurs.

Doing both aerobics and weight training is the optimal way to lose more fat and gain more muscle. If you are trying to lose weight, studies show that weight loss increases by 56 percent with aerobic and strength exercises combined.

Muscle may weigh more, but when you increase your muscle composition, the body is able to burn more fat, even when you are resting, because your metabolism is higher. A pound of muscle will use 350 to 500 calories per week to survive, while a pound of fat only needs about 14 calories per week. New studies have shown that building muscle helps your body fight disease better, too.

Strength training benefits everyone, no matter what age or sex, and is becoming recognized as an important component of fitness. Research is indicating that the muscle loss found in elderly people doesn't come from age, but lack of activity. Even a young person who doesn't get enough exercise can lose muscle mass and strength. Strength training, such as lifting weights or performing weight-resistance exercises, as little as twice a week can help maintain or increase muscle mass.

It is very important to do both aerobics and strength exercises. Aerobic Exercise is a type of exercise that elevates the heart rate and breathing for a continuous sustained period. This overloads the heart and lungs and causes them to work harder than at rest.

There are many options to choose from today. Bicycling, aerobic dance, swimming, walking, and stepping are all examples of aerobic exercise. Which ones to chose depends on your physical condition, your history, your interests and your goals. Many experts believe it is better to alternate between 2 or more types, to get a better workout.

There are two main types of aerobics- high impact and low impact. It is better to alternate between high impact aerobics (which are harder on the body and may cause more damage) and low impact aerobics, such as walking and swimming. This is called cross-training, and helps reduce the chance or injury and overuse of certain muscles.

You will want to perform aerobic exercises at least 20 minutes a day for at least 3 to 4 days a week. If you are trying to lose body fat, or your physical condition is very good, then you may want to work longer at it. Try exercising up to 40 to 60 minutes 5 to 6 days a week.

Remember there is no real need to go overboard. Moderate intensity is almost always better, and is more enjoyable. Low to moderate intensity is an especially good idea when starting out after a layoff or recovery from illness or injury, or if you are significantly overweight.

Warm-up and cool down is important to reduce discomfort and the chance of injury. Warm up by starting slow and gradually build up to your top speed. Then slow down again at the end of your workout.

Weight Loss - How to Follow a Low GI Diet

If you're looking for a diet for weight loss, you'll find plenty of 'fad' diets, most of which don't work at least over the long term. The low GI diet isn't a fad, and there are studies to back up its effectiveness for weight loss. And it will for a lifetime, because it's really not a diet, it's a way of eating, a healthy lifestyle that you partake in for the rest of your years.

As a result you'll not only lose those extra pounds, you'll maintain a healthy body weight and get a heap of other health benefits, as well as feeling better overall.

GI is a ranking system from 1 to 100. What it does is measure how the food you eat affects your blood glucose level two hours after it is eaten. A diet filled with foods that have a high glycemic index have several potential health problems associated with them, and they also cause weight gain and fat gain. A low glycemic diet can help you shed any extra pounds and maintain your healthy body weight.

The low GI diet recommends that at least two of your daily meals are low glycemic foods. This doesn't mean that high glycemic foods are completely banned, however most meals should be made of low glycemic foods.

It doesn't mean you have to know the GI value of every food you plan to eat. It does mean you should be eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables every day. It also means you should know whether major carb foods would fit into a high, low, or medium GI category. In other words when you are choosing pastas, rice, breads, and cereals you should know which have the lowest glycemic index and those are the ones you should be choosing.

One way to be able to sneak higher glycemic foods into a meal is to mix them in smaller quantities with a low glycemic index food. For example, if you really love potatoes, you could have a small amount of potatoes (high GI) with plenty of fish and green leafy vegetables (low GI).

Keeping the amount of cooking time to a minimum reduces the GI value too. The longer a food is cooked the higher the GI value. For example, raw fruit or vegetables are low in the glycemic index while cooked potatoes are high.

Think vegetables, vegetables, and then more vegetables. You should also include legumes and beans often. Mashed lentils are an excellent alternative to mashed potatoes. And fresh herbs on the side are perfect. Protein rich foods such as chicken and fish (also low in fat) are part of a low GI diet.

Let's have a look at some GI ideas for each meal:

Breakfast

Eat lots of fresh fruit especially apples, cherries, and berries
Use low fat dairy products, eg yogurt
Cereals such as muesli, oats, or bran
Oily fish
Eggs or omelette
Nuts and seeds

Lunch

Open sandwiches on wholegrain (multigrain) or sourdough bread
Baked beans
Fresh fruit
Vegetable soups like barley
Cheeses that are low in fat like ricotta

This the number one question heard in my office and in physicians offices throughout America. There is a strong relationship between weight gain, difficulty in loosing weight and feeling sick. Candida Albicans, an opportunistic fungus, is often the link between weight gain, feeling ill and the difficulties people have with loosing weight. Focusing on removing Candida Albicans from the body rewards the dieter with a feeling of well being and weight loss that is steady, sustainable and healthy.


Americans are embracing the low carbohydrate diet for its ability to reduce their waist size and weight even when other diets have failed. The more important benefits of a low carbohydrate diet are usually lost in our obsession with weight. Low Carbohydrate diets have been used by nutritionists and holistic physicians for decades to control Candida Albicans. The weight loss and feeling of well being that accompanies a low carbohydrate diet is mostly associated with controlling this serious, but often over looked health condition.


I often see patients in my office who want to lose weight and have tried every diet and pill on the market with little success. During their history they often reveal a list of symptoms and complaints that they feel have no relationship to their weight problem. These patients do not realize that their weight problem and their other complaints are symptomatic of a more serious health condition known as systemic Candida Albicans. By concentrating on treating the underlying Candida Albicans my patients are able to loose weight and improve their overall health.


Betty F. . . was consulting with me for continued weight gain. She was finding it difficult to stick to a diet and exercise, partly since she saw such limited results. During her consult she admitted to gas, indigestion and fatigue. Her history included birth control pills, antibiotic use and several yeast infections. Her treatment plan included a low carbohydrate diet, nutritional supplements, and anti fungal herbals. Candida Albicans is opportunistic yeast that often over whelms the body after antibiotic, may be passed from person to person with the exchange of body fluids, and from direct contact. It may be found in the reproductive tract, the mouth, the GI tract and in the blood. There are several common signs of Candida Albicans including vaginal yeast infections, thrush, jock itch and athletes foot. Candida Albicans has been linked to a number of health conditions including; asthma, depression, dizziness, fatigue, headaches, hypoglycemia, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), learning disabilities, menstrual problems, Migraines, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Syndrome (MCSS), Prostatitis, sinus problems, and Urinary Tract Infections (UTI).


One of the major secondary problems associated with Candida Albicans is weight gain. A number of the problems associated with loosing weight and staying with a diet are doing to Candida Albicans. A person with systemic Candida Albicans will often crave sugar and simple carbohydrates because this is the main source of nutrients for yeast. Mood swings and depression are often associated with the rapid change in blood sugar levels caused by the yeast. Patients often complain of gas and bloating caused by the fermentation of foods in their intestines by the yeast which naturally release gas, just like in Champaign and beer. The fermentation of foods in the intestine may also lead to alcohol production that is absorbed through the gut and may lead to symptoms of confusion, altered behavior, and difficulty concentrating. Determining whether you have a Candida Albicans can make a big difference on how easy you will be able to lose weight and keep your weight loss off.

Fat Person Weight Loss

If you're a fat person, weight loss is kind of a big deal to you. First off, please don't be offended by the title of this article. I was just trying to grab your attention so that maybe you'd read it and learn something. If you are overweight and sick of how you look and how tired you always feel, take 2 minutes to read through this article so you can start reversing your situation.

1. Drop almost all drinks that have calories in them

The only exception would be protein shakes. But this is how you can do it. If you are anything like I was, you love drinking sodas. For me, I was big on lemonades and Mountain Dew. But in less than 3 days, I was able to successfully give them up and save myself thousands of calories each week.

How did I do it?

I used Stevia packets. These are packets of a natural sugar substitute. I stress the NATURAL part since basically every sugar substitute on the market is man-made and UNNATURAL. So I took these packets, 2 at a time, and put them in my waters. I either shoot it up (if I was using my water bottle) or stirred it in (if it was in a glass).

Then I drank it. Simple. Nothing to it. The water was nice and sweet. I didn't have a craving for the sugars in lemonade or Mountain Dew. Problem solves in under 3 days. I have no desires for sodas now.

2. Do this 1 thing for me, focus on eating a breakfast high in protein and/or fiber

Breakfast is vital. How you day goes is a reflection of what you start out with. Scrambled eggs and 1/2 can of black beans will start you out right. They fill you up and kickstart the metabolism from it's nightly fast. Because you get a nutritious breakfast, you're less likely to snack on unhealthy stuff... along with having less cravings and junk food urges in the afternoon and at night. If you don't have eggs and black beans, try having rolled oats oatmeal with a scoop of protein powder.

This is simple and the ultimate fat person weight loss method to use.

Weight Loss - Your Diet Success Will Have Thousands Cheering

Why do you want to lose weight? What is your main reason for going on a diet? When most people go on a diet they want to lose weight for a variety of personal reasons. Some want to fit into old clothes they'd like to wear again. Others want their current wardrobe to fit better. Yet others want to look good in a bathing suit at the beach or look more attractive to the opposite sex. If these reasons alone were enough to motivate most people to lose weight, we wouldn't have an obesity epidemic.

Studies have shown that if you have a big enough reason to do something, something that is a major motivator; you are more likely to succeed. What could that be in terms of weight loss?

It is important to understand that losing weight and keeping it off is not just about you. Your success can affect loved ones around you and descendants not yet born. Say, what?

Many studies have been done that show if parents are overweight; their children are more likely to be overweight. The likelihood is great if just one parent is overweight and if both are overweight, the children are more likely to be overweight than they are to be of normal weight.

Now think about this, your children are likely to have children. If your children are overweight than its likely your grandchildren will be overweight. These grandchildren of yours are likely to have children and so on and so on. In other words, the success you have at weight loss can affect thousands of your descendants not yet born.

Are you getting motivated?

Try this exercise: Sit in a comfortable chair and close your eyes (obviously don't attempt this while driving). Take a couple of deep breadths to relax yourself.

Imagine you are sitting in the middle of the field of a large sports stadium. All of the seats are filled, the place is packed, and there is a feeling of electricity in the air. They are all there for you! These thousands and thousands of people are your descendants. They are so grateful for your weight loss success and the example you set for your loved ones. They know that if it wasn't for you, instead of being normal weight, they may all be obese.

There is a big scoreboard at the end of the stadium that says in big letters "Thank you" (Insert your name here). You see next to this scoreboard a large video screen. On this screen a countdown has started from 10. When the number reaches zero the place goes crazy! Tears are streaming down their faces as they look at you and yell in unison, "thank you, thank you, thank you!"

Here's how you can maintain weight loss. I'm going to share with you a simple 5 minute exercise tip that most people can do in their homes and I'll give you 2 simple diet-related tips that'll keep you from totally messing up your diet. 1. Exercise tip... walking up and down stairs for 5 minutes non-stop

This is pretty much as close as it gets to being beyond simple. If you have stairs in your home (or perhaps in your apartment or condo building), then just walk up and down them for 5 minutes without stopping. If you want to lose weight, then do this for 15-20 minutes. But for weight maintenance, 5 minutes is usually enough.

Be sure not to stop! That is key. Please don't say you already walk up and down your stairs a lot. That's great, but just humor me and do it exactly as I outline it above. Just trust me on this.

2. Eat 3 apples a day as snacks

Another basic tip. This will keep you kinda out of trouble between meals. The fiber in apples helps to fill you up. Also, it's high water content keeps you hydrated. Many times people think they're hungry when in fact they're just thirsty. With apples, you can "eat water".

3. Eat some black beans or lentils with 2 meals a day

You can eat a 1/2 can of black beans or 2-3 ounces of lentils with plenty of different meals. Squeeze them in there somehow. The fiber and protein in them will go a long way towards weight loss since it helps to maintain blood sugar levels while filling you up with fewer calories. Doing just this can turn a really bad meal into an "ok" meal.

Today, quick weight loss and healthy eating messages can be seen everywhere and are aimed at everyone. Most people can make improvements in their health with a few simple changes to their diet.

What is a healthy diet?

Research has shown that certain diets can increase your risk of getting heart disease, having a stroke, or developing certain cancers. If you have an illness, what you eat can also affect whether you get better or how bad the symptoms are.

For many people, one of the biggest benefits of a healthy diet is weight loss. Obesity is one of the biggest health problems in the industrialized world as it increases your risk of getting heart disease, diabetes, certain cancers, and arthritis.

A healthy diet should include the right proportion and type of carbohydrate, protein, fat, vitamins and minerals to give the body energy and all the nutrients it needs for growth and repair. A healthy diet, whether for quick weight loss or simply protecting your health, should comprise a few simple rules:

1. Eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day (except potatoes because they are high in carbohydrates). This isn't as hard as it sounds. For example, if you have a glass of fruit juice with your breakfast, a side salad and a piece of fruit with your lunch, and two vegetables with your evening meal, you've done it.

2. Eat less saturated fat. Our fat intake should make up only about 30 per cent of our daily calories and only 10 per cent should come from saturated fats.

3. Eat more fiber and make sure that about 50 per cent of your calories come from complex carbohydrates, which are found in starchy foods like whole wheat pasta and bread, rice, pulses, and cereals. You will probably find that, as you increase the amount of starchy foods you eat, you will eat less of the fatty ones.

4. Eat less sugar. It gives you energy but no other nutrients. One of the best ways to lose weight is to reduce the amount of sugary and high carbohydrate foods you eat.

5. Cut down on how much salt you eat because a high salt diet can lead to high blood pressure. Don't add it to food during cooking or at the table and avoid manufactured foods high in salt such as crisps and other snacks.

6. Get your protein from fish, poultry, pulses, cereal, and low-fat dairy products rather than red meat. Only 15 to 20 per cent of your daily calories need come from protein.

7. Avoid processed and 'junk' foods, as these are more likely to contain additives like preservatives, colorings, and flavorings, which may increase your risk of cancer. Be aware that 'natural' additives are not necessarily healthier.

So easy weight loss is possible if you simply watch what you eat, and make some healthy diet choices.
